Is is time for more or less gun control?

With the recent restrictions on gun sales and ammunition passed by the Los Angeles City Council, many including the Mayor say this is only the first step in restricting the use and possession of Fire Arms in the City of Los Angeles.

The recent Christmas shooting will no doubt spur more debate on the City’s Right and Duty to protect its residents.

Do you believe that must include more restrictions on the ownership of Fire Arms?

Do you believe that must include fewer restrictions on the ownership of Fire Arms?

Do you believe we have a right to CCWs  (Carry Concealed Weapons Permits)?

Good people can and will disagree. As an elected official I have a duty to listen to all sides of an issue and based on sound evidence, make a decision and take a course of action.

Please see my CCW blog and feel free to make your comments.

Thank You,

David Hernandez

Candidate for Mayor of Los Angeles.

    Hi, David,
I don’t know how to do “blogs” so I’ll just say that back where I came from EVERYONE cut their teeth on shotguns and rifles. We didn’t have any need for a bunch of laws or restrictions to keep anyone safe from guns: Just common sence. I have not owned a gun of any kind since 1962 and have no desire to do so, HOWEVER, I am firmly convinced that anyone who has passed a basic psychological review should be permitted to carry a concealed wepon. Florida has a LOWER homicide rate than California and Florida has a concealed weapon law. I do feel that an owner of a weapon- whether it be a sword, crossbow, regular bow or ‘any other type- be required to be fingerprinted.
Hope this gives you an Idea of my stand. WHEN WILL I GET MY YARD SIGNS AND LIT! ?
Hope your Christmas was “merry” and the coming year will be blesses with much happiness, Karl (IN GOD WE TRUST)

John Jay, a signer of the declaration of Independence, once asked this question in 1818:
“Even if it was practical, would it be wise to disarm the good before the wicked cease from troubling?”

Let’s face reality. The only people who might follow restricting gun laws, are law abiding citizens;not violent criminals.
It’s like declawing your house cat because you don’t want it to scatch up your indoor furniture.
But one day suddenly, through a window looking out into your backyard you see that your neighbor’s dog has just jumped the fence, while the cat is outside playing.
Upon entering your yard the dog somehow corners the cat. But the cat is now limited in it’s ability to naturally defend itself, because it has been stripped of it’s most effective weapon. It’s claws.
Would the cat’s chances for survival be lesser or greater?

It seems over the years, that more and more public officials of California have diligenly sought for new and innovative ways to confine the Peoples’ Natural Right of Self-Defense, within the narrowist limits possible.

My son is now 20 and a pilot. He’s a sophomore at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach. Because of issues like this he’s somewhat ashamed to say he’s from California because our state has a such a negative reputation for being foolish, short-sighted, and stupid.

Recently he purchased a rifle that is completely legal in Florida but would be considered an “assault rife” here in California because there is a groove on the barrel onto which an optical sight could be mounted. He showed me how the exact same rifle as his but without the cosmetics, i.e. with a wooden instead of a metal stock, etc. is legal here. He also explained that when the list of weapons to be banned was considered, staffs of senators like Feinstein went through magazine catalogues to pick out weapons for prohibition that looked “mean.”

It’s unbelievable that California can be so dumb. Thirty other states now have a concealed weapon permit that has reduced crime in their states. Personally, I think those that control the votes in California see the ban on these permits as a way to hold some some segments of society that would never be tolerated if the people knew.

I admire what you’re trying to do and I wish you all the Best.

    David.

Thanks for the blog post and best wishes for your mayoral campaign. On the issue of concealed weapons permits I am against the government at any level attempting to unduly restrict our Second Amendment Rights to “…keep and bear arms.” I agree with the previous post that finger printing of gun owners as well as having a national data base of legal gun owners purchasers are common sense modern day good ideals for a civil society.

    Best Regards,
